In this blog let’s discuss the Lap Child Policy of United Airlines.

Lap child Policy

•    Children younger than 2 years old traveling with a parent or with a passenger 15 years or older within the U.S.,  the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico can travel on the adult's lap free of charge.

•    If the passenger is traveling with two or more infants then only one child will allow travel as a lap child. In this situation, the parent or guardian is required to purchase a seat for each additional child.

•    On international flights (including to Canada, Guam, and Mexico), Children under the age of 2 without a seat are required to purchase a ticket. Only infant fares and taxes will be applied on those tickets.

•    If a passenger is traveling with an infant then they must indicate the situation during making a reservation via United Airlines Reservations. This information will help the airline to make better arrangements for you.

Note- pre-boarding for families traveling with children under the age of 2 is available.

Infant seating arrangement

•    On some particular aircraft, only one lap child is allowed per seat section due to safety issues. There are only limited oxygen masks in the seat section. Because of this reason, passengers with a lap child may not allow in certain rows.

•    If the children are not held by an adult or unable to sit properly during the seat belt fastened. In this case, an FAA-approved infant seat must be carried. The child safety seat must be secured in a seat and cannot be held on an adult's lap. The seat must remain properly secured on the aircraft seat at all times. The child safety seat cannot be used in the exit row or the row immediately before or after an exit row.

Note- United Airlines do not allow Babies younger than 7 days old or babies in Incubators.

Infant Safety Seats

•    A passenger can use an FAA-approved child restraint system (CRS) or child safety seat in certain rows after purchased a seat for the child. In this case, without purchasing tickets, United not allow passenger with the child in its flight.

•    The FAA has approved the use of the child safety restraint system for travel. To provide extra safety to the infant, an additional belt and shoulder harness are used in this system. A child between the weight of 22 and 44 pounds may use this safety device.

•    A child safety seat is allowed only in the window seats on single-aisle aircraft or in the middle seat on the section on two-aisle aircraft.

•    The child safety seat is not allowed in rear-facing seats or seats directly in front of, behind or in the exit row on any aircraft.

•    Passenger must place the child in the child safety seat for takeoff, landing and during turbulence.

Note-United Airlines does not provide any child restraint systems or child safety seats.

The child restraint seat is not allowed in the following classes of these particular aircraft:

•    In first-class on three-cabin of 767 or 777-200 aircraft

•    In 757-200 aircraft with rear-facing seats

•    In United Polaris business class on 767, 777 and 787 aircraft

The following seats will not be allowed in the aircraft:

•    Booster seats, belly belts attached to adult seat belts, and vests are not allowed

•    Harnesses seats that hold an infant to an adult’s chest cannot be used on board the aircraft.

Note – Due to federal regulation, the United is not permitted passengers under the age of 15 to travel in exit rows.
